Tapas Thursday - El Ambigú

Bar El Ambigú is on the busy Feria Street and a great place to stop when your stomach growls. This small bar has plenty of locals and tourists scavenging for a place to sit, but we got there early one evening and had a choice of tables. By the end of our first tapa, people were spilling out onto the street.

Our first tapa was Menudo con Garbanzos. It is a beautiful mix of tripe, jamón, and garbanzos and has a stew-like consistency that is perfect for dipping some bread into. This was a great dish on a cooler evening when I was wanting a warm dish of stew. It did not disappoint my craving with its richness and heartiness.

The Bacalao de Pimientas Asadas y Crema de Balsamico were perfect pieces of bacalao that satisfied our need for seafood. The balsamic sauce complimented the lightly fried fish nicely as well as the roasted red peppers with onions. Usually I look at the slaw on the side as just a dish-filler, but the slaw here was creamy and delicious. This tapa is something that I would stop by for on a regular base, just to keep all of these flavors dancing on my palate.

Our last tapa at El Ambigú was the Cola de Toro. This fall-off-the-bone bull's tail was wonderfully tender and a great finger food. The sauce of mainly paprika and beef juices was soaked up with a side of potatoes and bread.

By the time we left, our table was quickly grabbed and our stomachs were almost full. On to more bars for more to eat...look for more on next week's Tapas Thursday.
